Taupe is one of my signature colours and is the perfect neutral, neither being too warm, nor too cool. It is beautifully balanced, peaceful and calm.
There are a surprising number of shades of this colour and it can be used to simple and stunning effect. The gorgeous slender forms of the Decorative coin pots beautifully demonstrate this. Their taupe colouring allows them to sit perfectly between neutral grey shades, adding depth to a composition of vases.
Due to the many available shades of taupe, it can be accessorised with subtle combinations of other colours and texture. The Westbourne cushion is the perfect example of combined detailing using shades of taupe. The large mother of pearl buttons act as the perfect embellishment to the large expanse of rich taupe coloured velvet.
Similarly, taupe is a wonderful companion to other neutral shades. The warm rich taupe tone of the velvet banding on the Arundle and Strand cushions is accentuated and enhanced by the natural crispness of the clean textured white cotton to create a gorgeous and powerful contrast in material and tone.
Being so versatile, taupe lends itself brilliantly to creating layers of contrast. The gorgeous taupe colouring of the Vertical runner bedspread is perfectly off-set and balanced by the white velvet centre. This subtle calming, linear dimension of the bedspread can then have further textural and tonal contrast added to it by placing various taupe cushions on it. Here the Westbourne and Strand cushions finish the look perfectly.
Taupe and clear glass are the perfect companions, they simply adore each other. These Cut glass bowls and Cut glass vases with their distinct and soft subtle silver colouring can be used to add a beautiful layer of harmonious contrast to a taupe themed room and can be used to finish off a taupe colour scheme beautifully.
